The Bridge is an ecumenical parish centre run by volunteers. The aim is to provide a village meeting place where people can enjoy company and refreshments. Sufficient income is generated to cover costs and allow for some development but prices are kept as low as possible so that the coffee shop is accessible to all who wish to visit The Bridge.
From Elizabethan times, or even earlier, the building was a Parish Almshouse, rebuilt in the mid eighteenth century. In 1820 it was rented out to a grocer and has remained as a shop since then. There is an informative display in the coffee shop illustrating the hisory of the building.
In 1994 The Bridge was created as we know it today and refurbished in 2012. All three churches in Datchet provide volunteers to serve on the Management Group and in the Coffee Shop. Volunteers who do not attend church and people of other faiths are also welcome.
As well as being a Coffee Shop it also functions as a Help Point for the village, providing a variety of information. Telephone 01753 544556. The Help Point receives some financial support from the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Greetings cards, second hand books, publications from Datchet Village Society and paintings by the Datchet Art Group are on sale.
There is a playroom with toys for young children. Low cost photocopying and free Wi-Fi are available.
Citizens Advice visit on one morning per month for a drop in service. Appointments can also be made for a meeting in the private room at the back of The Bridge. Telephone 03444 111 444 for an appointment.
Outside Coffee Shop hours The Bridge can be hired for a modest fee. The accommodation is a Coffee Shop containing five tables with seating for 18, two small rooms for smaller groups, a toilet and a compact kitchen with an oven. The Bridge is suitable for meetings, presentations, workshops, funeral teas and social events. There is a TV screen in the Coffee Shop which can be attached to laptops.
